Race Director Message…

As we move into 2012 and the upcoming race season, Mountain Trails has been busy gearing up to bring you another season of premier events.

The Park City Marathon has a new face with a new logo and web site,  and our host hotel, Newpark Resort, is already taking reservations, so book early!

As you many not know, last year was the first year of Mountain Trails Foundation directing this event, we learned a lot, and looking forward to the continued support from racers and our community here in Park City, UT.  Here are just a few things to think about as you prepare to plan your trip to race in Park City.

  • Enter Early…the half and full marathon will sell-out
  • Make plans to stay in Park City, make it a “race”cation.
  • Full course (as of now) will remain unchanged for 2012, half course will change slightly for 2012 (map to follow in the spring)
  • This event is part of the Triple-Trail Challenge, learn more

We are excited about the upcoming events and hope you are too.  Registration for all our summer events will open on February 14, 2012.  Don’t hesitate to sign up quickly – not only will you save a few bucks, but you will guarantee your spot (last year all our events sold out!).

See you on the trails,

Ginger Ries/Director of Events

  1. I’m excited to attempt my first 1/2 marathon this year, and the PC race sounds perfect. GOOD LUCK! logo looks great.

    • We are working on getting a course map posted shortly. In the meantime, if you are from the flats, welcome to the beautiful mountains! Our course is not deliberately tortuous, but hey, the mountains are part of what makes it beautiful. The course climbs 878 feet over 15.7 miles (1-2% average), and then the return is downward trending.

      • Starting Elevation: 6,372’ Newpark Plaza
      • Marathon high point: 7,250 at Snow Park Lodge, Deer Valley Ski Resort, mile 15.75
      • Half marathon start: 6,372’, climbing to 6,700’ at turn around point

We’ve provide a great variety of terrain so you won’t be bored – six tunnels, a skier bridge in Old Town, a two-block long 16% uphill kicker at mile 18 (honorable to walk here), and a nice long downhill after that! It’s going to be “the high point of your summer” for sure!
